Job Summary
The Deputy Head: Learner Discipline (High School) supports the Executive Head or Head of School in the effective leadership, management, and day-to-day operation of the school. The role ensures the achievement of agreed academic, operational, learner, staff, and stakeholder outcomes through the implementation and monitoring of Curro policies, procedures, and strategic priorities. The Deputy Head may be assigned portfolios such as academics, learner affairs, discipline, sport and culture, operations, communication, or stakeholder engagement, while also acting on behalf of the Executive Head or Head of School when delegated.
Job Description
- Support the Executive Head/Head of High School with the development and implementation of the annual school business and strategic plan.
- Oversee academic achievement, learner targets, and operational priorities aligned to Curro strategy.
- Manage school activities including sport, culture, community engagement, and calendar events.
- Oversee financial operations, budgeting, and supplier contracts.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security requirements.
- Oversee curriculum planning, timetables, assessments, and reporting in line with CAPS/IEB and Curro standards.
- Support recruitment, mentoring, and retention of staff; manage staff performance and conduct.
- Implement learner discipline, pastoral care, and intervention processes.
- Represent the school on parent, stakeholder, or governance forums when delegated.
- Undertake teaching, tutoring, or learner engagement duties where required.
Key Skills / Requirements
- Minimum: Degree in Education
- Advantageous: Honours Degree in Educational Leadership and Management
- Legal Requirement: SACE registration
- Experience: 3–5 years managerial experience (School Management Team experience advantageous)
- Strong leadership, planning, and organisational skills
- Financial and operational management capability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and school systems
- Ability to work long hours and manage multiple priorities
